School time is not always easy for students. When students are super good, we usually worry less about their success and their motivation - as motivation to do their schoolwork seems to come naturally for them. But still, the high achieving students can face problems in finding friends or even trouble with teachers, in case they do too much or like to have control and the last word in school. Where does that come from? However, when they are rather weak students we worry and try to motivate them to support better grades. But what is their motivation? What troubles them that they cant succeed? So, we have different kinds of trouble and success packages every student brings with them, how can we unlock these, how can we start to understand what each student needs? This is not always easy, because school time is also puberty time. And puberty brings a lot of insecurities and problems, no matter if someone is strong or weak at school.Even though puberty is not easy, I coach the students with an exciting personality tool called, "The Reiss Motivation Profile". It measures and visualizes a person's intrinsic motivation and can tell us why we do what we do and how much we need from it. It can predict behavior, so to speak. It can easily release blockages and tell us why somebody is extremely successful or having trouble in some way. Accordingly, the Reiss Motivation Profile is a wonderful companion, when it comes to helping students plan their life paths and careers and even walk-through puberty together with their parents in a more relaxed and understanding way. The RMP is created by answering a scientifically validated online questionnaire with 128 questions. The result is then represented by a bar chart (See example below), which highlights the 16 Basic Desires. A trained Reiss Motivation Profile Master will guide the student through the results. The RMP as you can see above is like an individual fingerprint which is the reason why the RMP master will highlight motivational-based career ideas, learning types, and learning strategies. With the RMP results, we can predict behavior which means how we approach our tasks and solve them. For example, when we talk about the basic desire for curiosity. In the RMP bar chart, you can see, that the bar is dark blue and has a score of +1.90. That means that this student loves to learn new things, sometimes only for the sake of learning. The student loves to read and dig deep into the theory of topics. If you give this student, the duty to do some research on something it would be done with lots of pleasure and excitement. Now in case, that score would be on the other side in the light blue color which would mean a weak desire for curiosity maybe -1.90 then this student wouldnt like to do research too much. The student's approach to learning would be more hands-on and practical. Low on curiosity is not to be misunderstood as not curios but practical curios. That student wouldnt like to do lots of reading and theory every day which might cause headaches. So, if this student would like to do a Ph.D., it wouldnt be only a theoretical approach but a practical one, for example picking up an experiment that must be proven and then writing a detailed report/analysis about the progress, etc. Like the basic desire for curiosity, all listed 16 basic desires have a meaning and a certain way of understanding and behavior which will be lived by the person, and the combination of the scores affects the personality. In the interview, Melchi Michael (15 years), an Indian student talks about her personal experience using the RMP.
